COVID-19 Mitigation Efforts

Putting God’s love into action while keeping His servants safe.

Right before Thanksgiving, the Office of the Governor released a new order to combat the ever increasing spread of COVID-19 in Pennsylvania. Habitat for Humanity of the Greater Harrisburg Area – and the ReStore that supports it – wants to do everything it can to provide safe shelter for all. The ReStore is an incredible mix of staff, volunteers, donors, and shoppers who all have loved ones and lives outside of the store walls. In order to make sure everyone continues to stay safe, the ReStore is taking the following steps:

  1. Staff and volunteers will have their temperature screened daily and sent home if they have a fever of 100.4 Fahrenheit or higher.
  2. Face masks over the nose and mouth will be worn by all staff, volunteers, donors, and customers.
    • Disposable masks will be available at the register.
    • If a face mask cannot be worn, face shields are also available at the register.
  3. Hourly cleaning of the counter and register with a socially distanced checkout line.
  4. A volunteer or staff will wipe down carts and handbaskets before they become available to customers.
  5. High-touch areas will be cleaned every two hours by an assigned volunteer or staff.
  6. Hand sanitizer will be available at multiple locations within the store and donation center so customers may sanitize their hands after handling goods for sale.
  7. A limit of 30 persons will be allowed inside the ReStore.
  8. For one hour on Thursday mornings, 10:00-11:00, only high-risk and elderly customers will be allowed to shop in the store.
  9. Donations will continue to be by appointment and donors must provide valid contact information (either email or phone number) for the appointment to be valid.
  10. Online selling and curbside pickups are being researched and should be implemented by the new year.
